Hello Bruins! We’ve made it halfway through the fall semester in this weird, weird time of viruses and social distancing. I know it’s not perfect for anyone, but you need to know you’re doing amazing.
My name is Payton Espolon, and I am your Kampus Activities Board (KAB) President for the 2020-2021 year. Maybe you’ve seen my face on Kellogg Community College social media, explaining what KAB is and what we’re doing this year. But if not, let me take a moment to tell you about KAB and why it’s important.
KAB is a student-led group that is just for students. We plan events, programs, activities. The fun stuff that happens outside the classroom. We’re still here, virtually. We’re still active online, and I want you to know about the things you can get involved in with us in the coming weeks! You can also find by following us on Instagram @kabkcc, or joining our Microsoft Team via www.office.com)
RIGHT NOW, this second! We are running a Pumpkin Carving Contest! Make your masterpiece at home and submit a picture to studentlife@kellogg.edu before Oct. 27.
Keep your eyes peeled for voting submissions. A winner will be announced on Halloween and will be awarded a spooktacular prize! (Boo! It’s a gift card.) We’ve worked hard to find you deals from local vendors on pumpkins so you can join the fun – check our Instagram for details!
Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. – We’re hosting a Teleparty (aka Netflix Party)! If you have a Netflix account, we’ll be posting a link to a chat group a few minutes before the party so you can hang out with fellow Bruins and watch the 1991 classic Halloween flick: The Addams Family!
Wednesday, November 4 – We’re in the process of planning a TURKEY KAHOOT QUIZ PARTY! (all the caps for all the excitement!) We’ll be posting times and links to join that excitement soon. But maybe you want to help plan such a fun time… (see below)?
KAB is always open for new members! You can find us on MS Teams (https://bit.ly/37nCBTo) Every Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Pop in and say hi anytime!
It’s normal to feel like things are so weird and out of sorts that the only thing you can do is focus on your classwork, but remember – outside the classroom stuff is important to your KCC experience! Not just because fun is important – it super is – but because you get to connect with your fellow Bruins. You can make friendships, network and gain experience in transferable skills that future employers look for, like teamwork, organization, time management and leadership. I hope to see you soon!
