Looking to sell your textbooks? Book buybacks at KCC are just around the corner, starting May 1 in the Bruin Bookstore.
Students looking to sell back their books are required to bring a picture ID and the books they wish to sell.
According to Bruin Bookstore Manager Catherine James, the first day is usually pretty busy. Students are encouraged to sell their books as soon as they can, as there is a limit as to how many copies of each book can be returned. Publishers typically come out with a new edition every two years, James said, making old editions less valuable.
Assistant Bookstore Manager Charles Bard said students aren’t required to sell books when they bring them in. They can have their books evaluated, and if they don’t like the price offered they can walk away.
“Students should bring all of their books to scan and see how much they are worth to KCC and the wholesaler,” Bard said. “You can say no and keep your books after scanning them if you wish.”
If choosing to sell your books, cash will be paid on the spot. Books that the college is reusing and are in good condition typically sell for around 50% of the suggested retail price. If the college is not reusing the book, the price is typically around 20% of the suggested retail price.
Although KCC does not buy loose-leaf books or ones that aren’t being used again, a wholesaler will be at the sale and might buy those back.
Buyback will be held in the Bookstore on the first floor of the Lane-Thomas Building on the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. Buyback hours are:
· 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1
· 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2
· 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 3
