Join the Voces community for a celebration of life. The Dia de los Muertos event is quickly approaching, and you do not want to miss out!
The Dia de los Muertos event will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Kellogg Arena, McCalmly St. S in Battle Creek. The event is free and is suitable for all age groups.
The Mexican tradition is held to bring prayer and honor the loss of friends and family. Dia de los Muertos is not Halloween. It is not even associated with the spooky holiday and the narrative of ghosts. Ofrendas (altars) containing photographs of ancestors, flowers, candles, music, and popular Mexican pastries will be present at the Kellogg Arena. Altars typically consist of a loved one’s favorite foods and personal belongings.
Family liaison Mary Graniela believes the event is a perfect opportunity for the community to get involved.
“Voces serves the Latino/Hispanic community daily. This event uplifts Mexican roots and culture. Although this event provides entertainment, it is still an educational experience for the younger generation,” Graniela said. “I strongly recommend for community members to come together and join us on this special day.”
Mark your calendars and catch a glimpse of Hispanic beauty.
