The Kellogg Community College Foundation raised $100,000 for student scholarships through the Bruin Scholarship Open golf outing last week.
The event, held Sept. 7 at Binder Park Golf Course in Battle Creek, was the 21st annual incarnation of the Bruin Open, which has raised more than $1.2 million for student scholarships since 1998.
Teresa Durham, executive director of the KCC Foundation, said the 21st Annual Bruin Scholarship Open was a tremendous success.
“Over 230 golfers and 60-plus KCC employees filled Binder Park Golf Course for a day of golf, fun and fundraising,” Durham said. “In addition to the prize and 50/50 raffle, golfer gift table, chair massage and live music, this year’s event also included KCC student and muralist Jaziel Pugh painting the Bruin mascot, Blaze, on the grass mound, local restaurant Torti Taco on the Turn and a new sponsor, Southern Michigan Bank & Trust, for the Money on the Green Putting Contest.”
More than 60 KCC employees and retirees and more than three dozen student-athletes and scholarship recipients volunteered their time to help the Sept. 7 event run smoothly.
Thanks to this event, and many ones like it, many students’ educational lives have been positively impacted by the KCC Foundation. KCC Foundation events like the Bruin Open help fund the many scholarships that are handed out every year to future and current KCC students.
A record amount of $105,000 for student scholarship was raised at the event in 2017.
