The Kellogg Community College baseball team continues conference play next month looking to make some heads turn, starting the month by playing rivals Lansing Community College April 1 in Lansing.
The Bruins’ conference season begins April 1 by taking on rivals LCC. The game will be a heavily watched one with the Stars coming in as the fifth-ranked team in the nation, while the Kellogg Bruins are at a firm 12th. The Bruins are determined to set the record straight on who is the best junior college in Michigan.
After the big opening series against the Stars, the Bruins head to Jackson to face the Jets of Jackson College April 4.
The Bruins return home to take on crosstown rivals Kalamazoo Valley Community College April 6. It’s definitely a game to watch as the Bruins were one game away from completing the sweep against KVCC last year. And with the Bruins having more than a couple players from surrounding Kalamazoo schools, the game should be high tension. The game will be held starting at 2 p.m. at C.O. Brown Stadium.
The game is free and open to the public.
“A lot of guys got recruited out last year so we have a young team, but after the trip to Louisiana I feel like the team is really starting to click,” Donovan Thompson, a sophomore on the KCC team said.
Thompsons also said, “the team is working to get past where we lost last year.”
The Bruins won the conference title last spring but came up one game short in the finals of the regional. The Bruins have won the conference title five years straight and hope to keep the streak alive and extend it to six by the end of this season.
