Kellogg Community College has issued a statement today stating they stand with Michigan State in this time of grief. KCC stated “At KCC, we stand in solidarity with the Spartan community in mourning the lives lost and in praying for those who are injured and fighting for their lives after the shooting.” They also say “While we grieve, we also call on policymakers at all levels to redouble their efforts to ensure that college campuses across the country are places of refuge and learning and not senseless bloodshed.” The statement was posted to KCC Daily earlier today.

The shooting happened yesterday, Feb. 13, around 8:30 p.m. on Michigan State’s main campus. It has been verified by Michigan State Police that three people were killed and five others were left injured. The police have also released information on the suspect saying the shooter was identified as Anthony McRae, a 43 year old man, that had no affiliation with MSU. CNN states that Chris Rozman, Interim Deputy Chief with the Michigan State University Department of Public Safety, stated that “he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and authorities were yet to establish a motive.”
