Kellogg Community College is highlighting the artistic abilities of its students at an art show this month.

KCC’s annual Student Art Show is open to the public through May 2, with an awards ceremony scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 25. The exhibit is featured at the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery in the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, located on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.

The annual Student Art Show again features a diverse array of creative works from talented students across various mediums. Along with the display, the event is offering increased prize incentives this year to encourage student participation. The prizes include $200 Best of Category and $100 Honorable Mention awards in each category and a grand prize of $500 for Best of Show, offering both recognition and support for the next generation of artists.

Gallery Coordinator and Graphic Design Professor Penny Rose said the exhibition is one of the year’s most anticipated events.

“This is the biggest and most exciting exhibit the gallery has all year,” Rose said. “It’s such a thrill to see all the students’ talent exhibited in the same room. It makes the faculty and staff extremely proud.”

Hailey Key, an art student and participant in last year’s Student Art Show, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to showcase her hard work.

“Every day they teach me to be myself and encourage me to go outside of what I think I am capable of,” Key said when speaking about the impact faculty, staff, and peers have on students’ mindsets. “They challenge me in more ways than I could imagine, and I am forever thankful for all of them. They have given me the confidence and proud feelings that I have after my first year at KCC.”
