There will be a fundraiser for the Crochet Club at KCC from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the Student Center.

Members from the Crochet Club will be selling the things they’ve learned to make at the club meetings, such as animal plushes in the forms of cats, octopi and rabbits. All proceeds will be going toward the club for future supplies when the need arises.

Toni Keith, the founder of the club, says that the fundraiser “will help when we need more supplies for donating and more fundraisers.”

The Crochet Club was founded at the end of the Fall 2024 semester, and gained several new members via Bruin Boost. The club gathers on Mondays in the C Classroom Building from 3 to 5 p.m., and people mainly work on their own projects while more experienced members are able to help with those who need help.

The club advisor, KCC Academic Advisor Bailey Tyler, also sometimes attends the meetings and provides her own expertise. Her sister, Kyra Tyler, has also previously come in to share her knowledge.

Club founder Keith says that both now and in the future of the club, she wishes “to see more people learning and enjoying themselves when they create.”

Each meeting finds about a dozen people, often more, working on their crochet projects and simply chatting with each other while a playlist curated by the members plays in the background.

Club member Alexis Jones said she likes the atmosphere of the club a lot.

“It’s not overwhelming or pushy,” Jones said. “It’s just a room of people all focused on their own crafts with nice music and nice conversations that you don’t have to feel left out of or pressured to join.”

Most meetings start off quietly while everyone settles in and starts on their projects, but after a bit, people begin to chat with each other. About halfway through the meeting, Keith stops to share key information with the club before continuing the music and allowing conversations to resume.

Items at the fundraiser sale are currently set to be priced starting at $5, and items will be available in an array of sizes and colors. For more information, email Keith at k0456731@kellogg.edu or club advisor Tyler at tylerb@kellogg.edu.
