What do you do when you have an hour or two in between classes? Some days you may spend your extra time hanging out with friends on campus, but when we get into the thick of the semester, you may find yourself spending your free time tucked away in a corner somewhere on campus for some extra study time. Luckily, the North Avenue campus has plenty of nooks, crannies, and seating areas for you to choose from.
“I often find myself in that little room that’s all windows over by the Severin building. It’s a quiet nook away from a lot of the action on campus, you get a nice view of the outside, and if I need a snack there’s a vending machine right there,” current student Christian Perez said.
Many KCC students seem to be a fan of the many windows showcasing KCC’s lovely campus.
“I love the corner study area on level two in the math/classroom building because not a lot of people go over there and it’s surrounded by windows looking out at the pond so when it’s nice out it’s relaxing to be in there,” current student Josie Mann said.
A beautiful view of the outdoors is always a plus, but when the weather is nice, some students prefer to immerse themselves in nature while plugging away at assignments.
“I used to go out by the fountain in the spring and sit on one of those gardening knee pads. I think I just liked that the fountain had just enough background noise,” former student Tyler Rodriguez said. “The quiet in the library or a study room is almost loud and I couldn’t relax, but right next to the fountain had the water sounds and the chatter from passers-by without being too much.”
Others prefer a silent environment, however, and the Morris Library offers plenty of spaces to find one. You can even rent out a room all to yourself, complete with white board markers and plenty of chairs for a study group session.
“My favorite study spot is the library work rooms because you can chill in there for hours until you get everything done,” current student Khyrinn Herring said.
I’m a library study room fan myself. When I’m not there, you can often find me in various businesses around town like Barnes & Noble, Panera Bread, or Cafe Rica. Whether you prefer to work at home, on campus, or around town, there are plenty of places to set up shop and finish the semester strong!
