Sophomore Emma Berning of Battle Creek led the way for the Kellogg Community College Women’s Cross-Country team during the Jackson Jets Classis meet last Saturday. With an eleventh-place finish of 61 runners and time of 23:06, Berning guided her team to a 136-point fifth-place finish of the nine teams.
The KCC men’s team did not field enough runners to place in the competition.
Kennedy Vanderlugt of Battle Creek was the second finisher for the woman’s team with a nineteenth-place finish with a time of 23:38.
Hannah Wilkinson of Hillsdale; twentieth with a time of 23:44, Ana Pace of Battle Creek; thirty-eighth with a time of 27:27 and Ava Cooney of Athens; fifty-second with a time of 31:51, rounded out the woman’s team.
The Grand Rapids Community College women’s cross-country claimed the top team spot with 52 points, winning their second consecutive Jackson Jets Classic.
Host Jackson College was second with 80 points, St. Clair County Community College was third with 82 points and Muskegon CC finished fourth with 133 points.
Rounding out the competition was Oakland Community College with 149 points, Macomb Community College with 150 points, Mott Community College with 161 points and Lorain County Community College with 2165 points.
As for the individual performances, GRCC runner Kiah Becker won the race with a time of 21:33.40
Audrey Meyering, also of GRCC, finished second ahead of Olivia Hubbard of Jackson College. St. Clair County’s Caitlyn Rogers placed fourth.
Emma DelCotto and Ashley Lagodzinski of Oakland finished fifth and sixth respectfully.
Emily Swiercz of Macomb CC was seventh, while Jackson’s Harmony Harpster was eighth.
Macy Whipple of Muskegon CC and Jessica Adams of Mott CC rounded out the top ten.
Only two KCC men’s runners, Brian Frazee of Watervliet and Colin McDowell of Marshall, for the men’s team ran Saturday, to they were ineligible to place as a team.
Freeze finished fourteenth of 67 with a time of 31:06 and McDowell finished fiftieth with a time of 36:27.
Grand Rapids Community College swept the meet with their men’s team also taking home the top spot with 38 points. Jackson college finished in a distant second with 99 points.
Oakland Community College finished third with 103 points, Macomb Community College finished fourth with 110 points, St. Clair County Community College finished fifth with 127 points.
Rounding out the bottom half of finishers was Alpena Community College with 138 points, Mott Community College with 162 points, Ancilla College with 167 points and Muskegon Community College with 169 points.
Individually, Joshua Kipcoech of GRCC finished first with a time of 27:39. Drew Mays of St Clair County CC finished second, almost a minute and a half behind Kipcoech.
The Bruins next race is scheduled for Friday at the Firebirds Invitational hosted by Kirtland Community College in Grayling.
