KCC’s fall play Our Town is showing this Friday, Nov. 22; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. Reservations are encouraged to be made in advance by calling 269-965-4154. All performances will be held at KCC’s Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. Tickets are $5 for KCC students and employees and $10 for the general public.
The play follows residents of the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, NH in the early 1900’s, and involves universal concepts of life, love, and death.
“Our Town is a naturalistic, quiet and thoughtful play. It’s not really a drama or a comedy. It’s somewhere in the middle, and the pace of it is very different from an modern day action movie or even a romantic comedy,” said theater professor and Program Coordinator Brad Poer. “The show is powerful, touching, perspective-shifting.”
The play is the most performed American play, remaining in the top 10 most produced plays on an annual basis pretty much every year since it first debuted in 1938.
The play runs 2.5 hours with two intermissions. Seating is limited to 70 per show and the audience will be seated on the stage for a more intimate feel. According to Poer, “most of the audience will be close enough to feel the breeze as the actors walk by.”
