Kellogg Community College will be hosting a trip to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island from June 17 through 23.

History professor Michelle Wright said the trip offers learning opportunities for students interested in Michigan’s maritime history from the 18th and 19th centuries.

“It’s also a great way for students to learn about the process of making the past available to the public,” Wright said.

During the trip, students will visit historical locations including Fort Michilimackinac and Fort Mackinac. They’ll also tour Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse and take a carriage tour of the wonderful wonders found on the island.

“This is a great opportunity to participate in a trip that will allow them to meet archaeologists, public historians and other professionals in the history field,” Wright said. “Additionally, students will have experienced instruction and guidance on the trip.”

The trip also presents a unique opportunity for students to interview public historians at Fort Mackinac.
