Kellogg Community College celebrates Black History Month this month with several events aimed to recognize the important contributions and achievements of African-Americans in the history of the United States.
All the Black History Month events are open to the public and are going to be held at KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.
Drew Hutchinson, manager of Student Life at KCC, said that will be 13 events to commemorate Black History Month this year.
“Some of the Black History Month events this year are the Soul Food Lunch and a live performance by Bobby Holley, which has a price of $5 for KCC students and $10 for KCC employees and the general public,” Hutchinson said. “There will also be a trip to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.”
Additionally, there will be a free performance by Dr. Daisy Century as Phillis Wheatley from 4 to 6 p.m.Thursday, Feb. 21, in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, and to close Black History Month, there will be a free movie night showing of “The Hate U Give” starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, also at the Davidson Auditorium.
