KCC students interested in theater now have the option to both practice their skills and meet peers with similar interest in the newly rebooted Encore Theater Club.
The club is advised by theater instructor Brad Poer and held its first meeting on Sept. 21. Club president Drea Smith described the club as “a place where people who are passionate about or have an interest in theater come together.”
Club members have plans to do improv nights, pass out Halloween candy and possibly put on a production of their own.
Smith said the only qualifier to join the club is to be a student at KCC.
“No theater experience is necessary,” she said.
Starting on Oct. 4, weekly club meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays. The club does not have a space for meetings yet but will announce the information when a location is decided.
Smith said she hopes the club is a safe place for people to come and do great art.
“So much of theater is what it is because of the family atmosphere it has, and I hope to build that within the club,” she said. “I hope we have many adventures and get to make each other laugh and smile with everything we do.”
Smith said the first meeting was a success and she hopes the club will continue along a positive path.
“I already love these people and hope to find more people who share our excitement for the fun things we are doing,” she said.
